Finding the perfect bra can be a game-changer for your comfort and confidence. Here’s a friendly checklist to help you ensure you get the best fit every time you shop.

Have Your Measurements Ready!
An essential element for your ultimate bra-fitting checklist.
Each brand uses their own measurement size guide, so having your measurements on hand will reduce the number of bras you need to try on. Remember to follow the brand’s suggested measurements, not just your usual size.
Before you hit the stores, measuring your band and cup size accurately is crucial. Here’s a link on how to measure. Take your measurements using my method and record them to compare to size charts from each individual brand.

Checking the Band Fit
The band is the bra’s main support system, so getting it right is essential.
- Snug Fit: The band should be snug but not constrictive. You should be able to fit two fingers comfortably underneath.
- Level Band: Ensure the band sits level around your body and doesn’t ride up at the back. If it does, you might need a different band size, a differently shaped band, or a firmer fabric or elastic.
Custom bra-making is a joy because every part is tailored to fit just you! I can adjust everything—the shaping, the fabric, and the elastic—to meet your needs.

Evaluate the Cup Fit
Don’t forget to swoop and scoop! Do this every time you put on a bra to ensure you are “all in” the bra cups.
- Smooth Cups: The cups should contain your breasts without spilling over or gaping, and create lift and forward projection. They should lie flat against your breasts with no wrinkles or gaps.
- Centred Nipples: Your nipples should be centred within the cups, indicating proper lift and support.

Adjust the Straps
Straps should offer support without digging into your shoulders.
- Comfortable Tension: Adjust the straps so they’re firm but comfortable. They shouldn’t leave marks or slide off your shoulders.
- Even Straps: Ensure both straps are adjusted evenly to avoid asymmetrical support.
Look for Signs of a Good Fit
When trying on bras, these signs indicate a good fit:
- No Spillage: Your breasts should not spill over the top or sides of the cups.
- Smooth Back: The band should lie flat and smooth without creating bulges.
- Centre Gore: The centre gore (the part of the bra between the cups) should sit flat against your chest.
- Proper Underwire Fit: The underwire should fit correctly. If it’s not the right size and shape, the rest of the bra won’t fit comfortably.
Move Around
Test the bra by moving around, lifting your arms, wiggling, and bending over to ensure it stays in place and remains comfortable.
Assess the Support
A well-fitting bra provides adequate support without causing discomfort.
- Natural Shape: The bra should enhance your natural shape without creating lumps or unnatural curves.
- Comfort and Confidence Throughout the Day: Consider how the bra feels after wearing it for a few minutes. It should remain comfortable and supportive.
Try Different Styles
Different styles offer various benefits, so don’t hesitate to try multiple designs to find what works best for you. For example, full-coverage bras provide more support, while demi-cups can offer a more natural look under low-cut tops.
